Team 6-3 Science students used their Geologic Time Scales to answer questions and figure out the necessary codes to unlock the Breakout Box. Students persevered and worked as a team while reviewing science content. They even commented, "Can we do another one?" and "That was way better than a lesson!" 😜🔒

A recent Facebook post regarding Washington High School falsely claimed a routine request for a birth certificate was related to immigration status. State Law (SDCL 13-27-3.1-3.3) requires all public school students to have a birth certificate on file within 30 days of enrollment. When required records are missing from student files, school staff regularly attempt to contact families before sending the required information to the State’s Attorney. These requests are made solely to ensure compliance with State Law and to maintain complete student records. They are in no way related to immigration enforcement. We are committed to protecting the privacy of our students and their families. Please reach out to your child’s school or the district office with any questions rather than relying on social media for accurate information. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping student records up to date.

Team 8-3 established Pen Pals with Robert Frost students at the start of the school year. They've exchanged multiple letters throughout the year and finally got to meet in person last Friday. During their visit, students played together at recess, completed a Kahoot and some students played card games while chatting. They topped off the get-together with cookies! It's great to see our 8th graders mentoring some of our future Panthers!

Mr. Loofe, one of our Educational Assistants at Patrick Henry also works at Grand Falls Casino as a banquet server on the weekends and during the summer. He was able to turn his volunteer hours into a $5,000 donation. We are proud of Mr. Loofe and we think he’s a great role model for our students at Patrick Henry! Thank you for thinking of students in the Sioux Falls School District! Read on to learn more from Mr. Loofe. Q: How were you able to turn your volunteer hours into a $5,0000 donation? A: “The Casino has recently started a program called "Helping Hands" Hosted by Elite Casinos. This program had me record any volunteer hours that I did over the past year. The Casino then matched my hours by $5 for every hour that I recorded. When the volunteering timeframe was over, I had the option to donate to an organization of my choice. Since I had 1000 volunteer hours recorded, I earned $5000.00 to donate!” Q: How did you select the organization to donate to? A: “While this organization, “Sleep in Heavenly Peace” is a new organization, I heard they are starting to work closely with the SFSD, so I thought it would be a perfect choice to help out the students in our district and community.” Q: What is the purpose of the “Sleep in Heavenly Peace” organization? A: “The organization collects funds from donors in order to build bed frames as well as purchase mattresses and bedding for kids who do not have a bed. Picturing one of my students without a bed to go home to is a heartbreaking image, and I want to do everything I can to help those who need simple things like a bed.”

Social Studies students on Teams 7-2 and 7-3 recently shared their research on different countries around the world by presenting to fellow students and parents.  The World Fair project focused on researching the elements of culture found in every country, such as daily life, religion, language, government, and the arts.  Students selected their own presentation style ranging from digital presentations, documentaries, and websites to exhibits, infographics, and scrapbooks.  Several groups made a recipe from their chosen country as well. Great job, Panthers!
